Ask a Librarian and Online Research Appointments

You can use the Ask a Librarian service to ask us your research questions by e-mail, chat, text or online appointment. Feel free to ask for help with your research assignments! We’ll answer during our online reference hours, but you can ask your question even when we’re not online.

You can also book one-on-one appointments with a librarian to get in-depth help with a course assignment or project. Visit the Make an Appointment page to select a date and time that works for you.

Library Research Guides

Make use of one of our subject specific research guides to find recommendations for the best databases and resources in a certain subject area. If you’re not sure which research guide to use, chat with a librarian (see above) to get a recommendation.

Online Library Workshops

Online library workshops are still being held, and are open to all Montclair State faculty, staff and students. Topics include Library 101, doing library research online, citation managers like EndNote, and more. See the workshop schedule for more details.

Online Resources

Sprague Library has access to thousands of ebooks, ejournals and streaming media. Check out the Find Online Resources page on the Sprague Library COVID-19 Response Guide for a full list of journals and databases. Our Free eBooks, Videos & Other Online Resources during COVID-19 page also outlines a full list of free online resources that have been made available by publishers and organizations.

The Publication Manual of the APA has also been made available for free online to help support remote learning. Both the 6th and 7th edition are available on the eBook platforms VitalSource and RedShelf. For links, instructions, and even more resources, visit the APA’s official coronavirus response page.

Course Reserves

If your professor has put an item on reserve for your course, library staff have switched over to ebook access when possible. Search the Reserves page to see if your item is already available online.
