The Center for Leadership and Engagement and the Office of Financial Aid partnered this spring to offer students the chance to win a $500.00 CashCourse scholarship. The scholarship was open to all students and in order to apply they simply had to complete a series of modules about financial literacy on CashCourse. Sophomore Alejandra Linares Martinez, Junior Mickeala Bland and Senior Raquel Lopez came out on top! They were chosen by a random draw out of all students who completed the course and now have been awarded the scholarship money, added toward their tuition!

Alejandra, a Product Design major, stated financial literacy is very important, “because as we grow up, we have to deal with financial situations that are overwhelming and sometimes difficult to understand. Financial education helps us learn about our options and guide us to make smart decisions.”

Mickeala, a Psychology major, also agrees. “I think Financial Education is important because it teaches us how to be more responsible when managing our personal finances.”

Finally, Raquel, a Business Administration major, states, “Financial education can help us be more efficient and help us achieve financial stability. Taking the CashCourse inspired me to pick up Personal Finance as an elective during this summer.”

Thanks to all students who took the course! We hope you gained knowledge and take always to use in your daily life. CashCourse is still available for all students to participate in and develop their financial literacy skills.

More Details about CashCourse

CashCourse is a free, noncommercial, online financial education resource. The program helps students build the financial skills they need to get through school and to prepare for the future. CashCourse equips students with information that helps them make informed financial decisions, from orientation to graduation and beyond.

Students can access a variety of modules, e.g., budgeting, paying for college, savings and goal setting, etc., to name a few. Each module has a pre-quiz to help students view their current financial knowledge and a post-quiz to see changes in responses after completing a module.
