Getting Ready for the Fall

A Message from President Cole

Posted in: Academic, Announcements, Featured News, Red Hawk News

Dear Students,

We have been very busy this summer getting ready to welcome you back in the fall, assuming that the State keeps making progress in the fight against COVID-19, and Governor Murphy authorizes the colleges and universities to reopen.

Today the University published a detailed restart plan that will guide every aspect of how we operate, from academics, to campus life, housing, dining, transportation and more. It is designed to provide you with a rigorous and meaningful academic experience and allow you to make good progress toward the completion of your degrees, while being sensitive to the health and safety of every member of the campus community.

The plan outlines the safeguards that all of us – students, faculty, staff and visitors – will be required to follow, including:

  • Social Distancing
  • Wearing Face Coverings
  • Good Hand Hygiene
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing our Surroundings
  • Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Daily Health Monitoring, and Staying Home if Sick

Hundreds of people from across the University shaped this plan, working long hours over the last several weeks. Every unit provided guidance and expertise about specific details and protocols. The President’s Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Related Planning provided scientific and professional advice and helped assure our plan is grounded in the best available evidence. Teams from each of the colleges, schools, and administrative units, as well as the University Senate and the Student Government Association, provided helpful feedback on drafts of each section. I am grateful to all of them.

You will receive more information in the days to come and be given training on implementing the plan. For now, please review the plan, and if you have any questions, send an email to reopen@montclair.edu

We are looking forward to welcoming you back!

Sincerely,

President Cole
