Red Hawk Restart: Student Training

About Student Training, Hawk Check Self-Assessments.

Posted in: Announcements, Featured News, Safety, Wellness

Dear Students:

Taking steps to minimize the risk and spread of COVID-19 is a responsibility shared by every member of the Montclair State community. To help keep our community safe, Montclair State has launched two key action items for students:

  • Training to help students understand the important role each individual has in the prevention of COVID-19.
  • A self-assessment online health tool called Hawk Check that you will be asked to take each day before coming to campus or before leaving your residence hall room each day.

Student Training

Red Hawk Restart Training covers important topics with a focus on prevention and risk-reduction. A set of general safeguards are designed to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Go to the Red Hawk Restart Student Training web page.

Hawk Check

Students will be required to use Hawk Check, the online self-assessment, any time you are coming to campus. Resident students are asked to take a Hawk Check daily before leaving their room. Take the self-assessment at montclair.edu/hawkcheck. Please Note: Links to the Hawk Check self-assessment have been placed on several web pages including the Student Services page and on the NEST mobile app.

The information you share through Hawk Check will help us support you if you become ill. It also will allow for contact tracing in the event of a positive or presumed case of the coronavirus. The information will be kept confidential but may be accessed by certain designated officials for public health purposes. For more information about confidentiality, please visit the About Hawk Check web page.

If you are a commuter coming to campus, or a resident student that has left campus, please plan ahead. You need to take the Hawk Check self-assessment 6 to 12 hours before arriving on campus to allow time for the health providers to review results and, if needed, contact individuals who screen positive.

The self-assessments are part of the University’s Restart Plan to ensure the well-being of the entire campus community and are consistent with state and federal regulations and public health best practices. The Restart Plan is posted on the Montclair State website and was most recently updated on Monday, August 3.

As a community we must work together to keep each other as safe as possible. What each of us does (or doesn’t do) affects everyone – not only ourselves and our immediate friends. To keep the campus open, we need to keep COVID-19 out. Be safe and stay healthy.
