Dear Members of the University Community:
Vaccination against COVID-19 offers the best path forward for us to return safely to the vibrant, fully accessible campus community we all love. The data shows that the vaccines are safe and effective, and I am very pleased that thousands of you have reported on Hawk Check that you’ve gotten your shots.
To further protect our campus community, and move us forward along the path to offering a normal semester in the fall, I announced on Thursday, April 22 that the University will require every student to be fully vaccinated before the start of the fall semester.
Today I am announcing that vaccination will be required for participants in certain summer on-campus activities. Specifically, proof of vaccination will be required for:
- Everyone living in the residence halls
- Participants in summer academic enrichment programs, including the “summer bridge” programs for incoming freshmen, the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program, the Hispanic Student College Institute and similar programs
- Participants in non-residential programs that last for more than three days, including summer camps, workshops and similar programs
- Commuter and resident students who are enrolled in certain, specifically identified courses with high interpersonal contact. A list of those courses can be found on our website.
Furthermore, a negative test result for COVID-19, administered within 72 hours before the beginning of the program or activity, will be required for all participants in the above programs or activities.
Please Note: Because persons under 16 years of age cannot be vaccinated, all on-campus activities that require vaccination will be limited to participants who are 16 years of age or older.
Proof of vaccination will not be required for:
- Commuter students taking on-campus summer classes, unless those courses are on the “high contact” list
- Participants in non-residential programs that last for three or fewer days, including summer camps, workshops and similar programs.
After Monday, July 5, to use the Student Recreation Center, a person must show that they are fully vaccinated or have a negative test within 72 hours.
Montclair State University students can submit their proof of vaccination via My Health Portal. Submission instructions for non-Montclair State students will be available soon. You can view information about medical or religious exemption forms on the University Health Center Immunization web page. More detailed information will become available soon, but if you have questions at this time, please consult this list of FAQs.
The best thing all of us can do right now to protect ourselves, our families, and all members of the University and the larger community is to get vaccinated. Please remember that Essex County will vaccinate all Montclair State students and employees. Appointments are plentiful and can be booked online at the Essex County COVID-19 website or by calling the county’s COVID-19 hotline at 973-877-8456.
