{"id":164,"date":"2017-10-10T17:31:06","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T17:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/?page_id=164"},"modified":"2026-03-26T17:30:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T21:30:59","slug":"admission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/admission\/","title":{"rendered":"Admission"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Applying as a new student&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Applying for admission to the Department of Theatre and Dance is a two-step process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The University application<\/strong> \u2013 First, submit an online application to Montclair State University, following guidelines for undergraduate or graduate admission:<br \/>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/admissions\/\">Undergraduate Admissions<\/a><\/span><span class=\"prpl-button\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/graduate\/\">Graduate Admissions<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Department Audition, or interview <\/strong>\u2013 Admission requirements vary from program to program. Click on the links below for specific program details and instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students participating in an audition event conducted by a Partner Organization are required to register for the event online after submitting a University application.<\/p>\n<p>Please note &#8211; prospective students who apply to the University through the CommonApp will receive an email from the Office of Admissions inviting them to create an MSU application portal. Instead, email the appropriate representative below to submit an interview, audition, or portfolio review. You will be notified of the result by email.<\/p>\n<p>You will be required to submit for review all of the materials that appear on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/admission\/#apply\">Department of Theatre and Dance Application website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Application reviews will begin at the end of November and continue on a rolling basis.<\/p>\n<p>Musical Theatre<br \/>\n<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"mailto:mtauditions@montclair.edu\" target=\"_blank\">mtauditions@montclair.edu\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Acting<br \/>\n<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"mailto:actingauditions@montclair.edu\" target=\"_blank\">actingauditions@montclair.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Professor Mysti Stay (Design Technology, and Management\/Theatre Studies)<br \/>\n<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"mailto:staym@montclair.edu\" target=\"_blank\">staym@montclair.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Christina Paolucci &#8211; Admissions Coordinator (Dance)<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:paoluccic@montclair.edu\">paoluccic@montclair.edu<\/a><a name=\"appointment\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As admission to our programs is competitive, we encourage you to complete your application with special attention to the following:<\/p>\n<p>Please note that if you do not move past the pre-screening, you will be notified and your audition appointment will be canceled.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Details regarding the interview<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">After you submit your application to the University, you will receive an invitation to schedule an interview on one of the available dates. We offer both virtual and in-person options for the interviews. For the virtual interviews, you will be assigned a time slot between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., lasting 30 minutes. During the interview, we will review any sample paperwork or images you provide and address any questions you may have about the program. Additionally, a current student will be present to answer any questions related to student life.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">If you decide to join us in person, the session will include both an interview and an experience related to Montclair Design, Technology, and Management. You will have the opportunity to participate in an interview with faculty members, tour our facilities, and sit in on a class related to technology and\/or performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">You can choose to attend only the interview portion, which will take place on the morning of February 21 and the afternoon of April 2, or you can extend your visit to include the full Montclair experience. Additional information will be provided closer to the interview dates.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>All applicants for the spring semester must submit a completed University application by <strong>November 15, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Freshman applicants for the fall semester should submit a completed university application by a date no later than March 1, 2026 in order to be considered for housing and financial aid.<\/li>\n<li>Application reviews will occur on a rolling basis through approximately March 1, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Applications submitted after March 1, 2026 are intended for late-applying transfer applicants and University-enrolled students who wish to change their majors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Theatre Studies: No audition is required for this program<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Notification of Admission Status<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the application review, the Department will forward its recommendation to the Admissions Office, which will notify you of your overall status .\u00a0 Please note that, in some cases, applicants may be placed on a waiting list.<\/p>\n<h3>Graduate Appointment Dates<\/h3>\n<p>Interview appointments for all graduate programs are scheduled individually with the Graduate Program Coordinator, generally weekdays 8:30 a.m. &#8211; 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Events for Prospective Students<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>We encourage all applicants and prospective students to visit the campus to learn more about our programs.
