The Department of<\/strong>\u00a0Theatre and Dance<\/strong>\u00a0is on the move! Theatre on the Move (TOTM) is Montclair State\u2019s touring acting company. TOTM performs shows at middle schools and high schools in the New Jersey\/New York area.<\/p>\n

Our Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n

TOTM\u2019s mission is to extend Montclair State\u2019s community outreach. Our touring company takes theatre, featuring contemporary social issues, to schools throughout the state.<\/p>\n

Our History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

TOTM\u2019s adventure began in the Fall of 2011 with the world premiere of a play that commemorated the 10th anniversary of September 11th<\/sup>\u00a0by exploring the teenage experience in the post 9\/11 world.<\/p>\n

In Spring 2012, TOTM toured\u00a0Bullies \u2018R Us<\/em>\u00a0to high school and middle schools. This unique performance included short scenes and personal anecdotes that highlighted teenaged bullying. After the performance, students voiced their own opinions and personal experiences in a talkback session with the actors.<\/p>\n

In Spring 2013, TOTM created\u00a0Breaking the Cycle<\/em>. With humor juxtaposed with serious content,\u00a0Breaking the Cycle<\/em>\u00a0showcased improvised scenes created by the company\u2019s actors along with scripted scenes specifically written for teen audiences.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next for TOTM?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For Spring 2020, we will once again create a brand new exciting and engaging anti-bullying show which is designed specifically for middle and high school audiences.<\/p>\n

Does the show change from year to year?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Yes.\u00a0 Each season, Montclair State faculty member and professional actor\/director, Jim Ligon works with a new group of students to create a unique and exciting version of the show, while maintaining the core theme and message.<\/p>\n
