{"id":18571,"date":"2017-11-10T13:41:57","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T18:41:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=18571"},"modified":"2018-05-08T11:24:19","modified_gmt":"2018-05-08T15:24:19","slug":"18571_stacey-tookey-contributes-to-works-a-foot-2017-at-montclair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/2017\/11\/10\/18571_stacey-tookey-contributes-to-works-a-foot-2017-at-montclair\/","title":{"rendered":"Stacey Tookey Contributes to Works A Foot 2017 at Montclair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Emmy-nominated choreographer <strong>Stacey Tookey<\/strong> recently spent a week at Montclair State auditioning and setting <em><strong>Gift<\/strong><\/em>, an original work for the dance majors.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Gift <\/strong><\/em>will feature in the upcoming <em><strong>Works A Foot 2017<\/strong><\/em> concert which runs November 30 &#8211; December 3 at the University&#8217;s Memorial Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify; margin-bottom: 12pt;\">Ms. Tookey has worked with legendary musical artists such as Celine Dion, Bette Midler, Christina Perri, Justin Timberlake, Michael Bubl<span lang=\"FR\">\u00e9<\/span>, Ingrid Michealson and Paula Abdul. Her performing highlights include <span lang=\"DE\">Mia Michaels<\/span>\u2019 contemporary dance company <em>R.A.W., <\/em>Parsons Dance Project, Ballet British Columbia, Peter Chu\u2019s ChuThis, Houston Grand Opera and Celine Dion\u2019s record-breaking show <em>A New Day <\/em>at Caesars Palace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify; margin-bottom: 12pt;\">Her TV and film choreography credits include <em>So You think You Can Dance<\/em> and <em>So You Think You Can Dance Canada<\/em> for the past 10 seasons, <em>Dancing with the Stars<\/em>, <em>The James Cordin Show<\/em>, <em>Shia LeBeouf Live<\/em>, <em>Dance-Off <\/em>and <em>Fair Market Value<\/em>. She has choreographed full-length ballets for Cincinnati Ballet and Los Angeles Ballet and taught at such prestigious institutions as Loyola Marymount University, University of Jacksonville, Princeton, and The Julliard School.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stacey\u2019s Dance Company <\/span><em style=\"text-align: justify;\">Still Motion <\/em><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">celebrated its world premiere of <\/span><em style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moments Defined <\/em><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">in 2012 and since then have performed for sold out audiences in Los Angeles, New York City, and Long Beach. They have also performed at Perry-Mansfield, Jacob&#8217;s Pillow, and recently at <\/span><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dansencore.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">DansEncore<\/a><span style=\"text-align: justify;\"> in Trois- Rivi<\/span><span lang=\"FR\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00e8<\/span><span lang=\"PT\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">res.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify; margin-bottom: 12pt;\">Senior Dance major Rhamzi Burks: &#8220;<em>I thoroughly enjoyed my experience working with Stacey Tookey. I loved that she encouraged collaboration and gave us the permission to insert &#8216;ourselves&#8217; into the process. This helped give the movement a special life of its own that we seek to rediscover every time we do it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify; margin-bottom: 12pt;\">Sophomore Dance major Kristine Maiella: <em>&#8220;The incredible experience of working with Stacey Tookey is one I can barely put into words. Perhaps the most inspiring aspect was the atmosphere that her choreographic process cultivated\u2014 encouraging a transformation of our artistry, and allowing us all to bond and connect at the heart as dancers and individuals. I am beyond grateful to have been given this opportunity, and I am looking forward to performing this piece on stage.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\" style=\"text-align: justify; margin-bottom: 12pt;\">Junior Dance major Khalid Dunton: <em>&#8220;Stacey Tookey is a great choreographer full of ideas. Although a lot of her choreography has deep meaning, she brings lightness to her dancers when in rehearsal.
