{"id":206631,"date":"2019-02-28T14:04:44","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T19:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/?p=206631"},"modified":"2019-03-22T12:35:28","modified_gmt":"2019-03-22T16:35:28","slug":"theatre-studies-students-kick-off-fornes-production-with-screening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/2019\/02\/28\/theatre-studies-students-kick-off-fornes-production-with-screening\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Studies Students Kick-Off Fornes Production with Screening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Theatre and Dance will host a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary <em>The Rest I Make Up<\/em> about innovative Playwright Maria Irene Fornes directed by Michelle Memran on March 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, 2019 in the Life Hall Studio Theatre (1200) at 1:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The screening will kick-off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/theatre-and-dance\/academic-programs\/undergraduate\/ba-theatre-studies\/?wp_logged_in=true\">The BA Theatre Studies<\/a>\u2019 production of\u00a0<em>Fefu and her Friends<\/em> by Fornes to be performed at the Montclair Women\u2019s Club from April 28<sup>th<\/sup> and 30<sup>th. <\/sup>\u00a0The production of <em>Fefu<\/em> is part of a new course called Site-Specific Performance taught by Dr. Jessica Brater. BFA Acting students, taught by Debbie Saivetz,\u00a0 will also begin working on scenes by Fornes, one of the most influential voices in the Off-Broadway movement in American Theatre. Fornes was also teacher to such prominent playwrights such as Migdalia Cruz, Caridad Svich and Nilo Cruz.<\/p>\n<p>Fornes, a Cuban-American playwright and director who pioneered new forms of theatrical storytelling that put complicated female characters at its center, is the subject of Memran\u2019s sprawling documentary, T<em>he Rest I Make Up<\/em>.
