What is a Safe Space?
A Safe Space is where anyone can relax and be fully self-expressed without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome or challenged on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural background, age and physical or mental ability.
Feeling comfortable (and safe) on campus contributes to your wellness, supports your learning and contributes to your academic and personal success and happiness.
Safe Space Program
The Montclair State University LGBTQ Center offers a Safe Space program that identifies individuals and offices that are Safe Spaces in the Montclair State community. These offices are identified with a decal that states: LGBTQ Safe Space. Look for these colorful stickers as you move around campus!
We Are Here for You
The entire University Health Center staff is Safe Space trained and offers a welcoming setting for all students. Our waiting room has inclusive health brochures regarding health and well-being. Our health history form asks for gender pronouns and preferred name so the staff can address you appropriately. We take pride in our staff who are welcoming and knowledgeable about LGBTQ health and provide evidence-based care. We will be your safe space, if you need it!
