{"id":546,"date":"2020-01-23T16:41:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T21:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/water-science\/?p=546"},"modified":"2022-02-09T16:20:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T21:20:33","slug":"training-more-eyes-on-nj-water-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/water-science\/2020\/01\/23\/training-more-eyes-on-nj-water-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"Training More Eyes on NJ Water Quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"block-yui_3_17_2_1_1579622514113_5827\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p class=\"\">A new collaboration called the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/njwatershedwatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">NJ Watershed Watch Network<\/a>, which describes itself as a \u201cservice provider for community-based water quality monitoring groups in New Jersey,\u201d recently convened a brainstorming session of \u201cwater watchers\u201d from the region to compare notes, share resources, and help each other out. The NJDEP runs its own <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/dep\/wms\/bears\/assessment.htm\" target=\"_blank\">water quality assessments<\/a>, but due to manpower limitations, these are only completed every few years, and often do not include the smaller waterways.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-yui_3_17_2_1_1579622514113_8717\" class=\"sqs-block image-block sqs-block-image sqs-col-6 span-6 float float-right sqs-text-ready\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1579815333705_89\" class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1579815333705_88\" class=\"image-block-outer-wrapper layout-caption-below design-layout-inline combination-animation-none individual-animation-none individual-text-animation-none\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1579815333705_87\" class=\"intrinsic\">\n<div class=\"image-caption-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"image-caption\">\n<p class=\"\"><em>StreamWatch volunteer Patti Maslanka and her family have been monitoring Cruser Brook for nine years.
