A full-day of events to help spread awareness of what Mindfulness is, its benefits, and how to use mindfulness practices everyday for overall health and well-being.

Events

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. - Breakfast and Sign In.


9:15 a.m. - Introduction: What is Mindfulness? with Special Guest Mark van Buren, author of Be Your Sh*tty Self: An Honest Approach to a More Peaceful Life (Bryce Cullen, 2013).

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - Mindfulness in Higher Education, featuring Guest Speaker Shalom Gorewitz, Visual Artist and Professor of Video Art and New Media, Ramapo College.
  

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. – Increasing Student Success Through Self-Awareness with Denise Rodak, Student Center Room 419.


12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Lunch break - Slow Food Movement and Mindful Eating Practices.


1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. – Song and Drum from an Indigenous Perspective with Michael Lees, Student Center Ballroom.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Art and Mindfulness with Shalom Gorewitz, Student Center Room 419

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p..m. - Nature Walk Mills Reservation, meeting at the Student Center Ballroom.


4:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. - Developing Equanimity Meditation Session - Student Center Room 419. 



Concurrent activities (happening throughout the day in dedicated spaces):

  • Yogathon — 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center Quad. View ScheduleRegister.
  • Sitting Spaces — quiet space reserved throughout the day in main location.
  • Poet’s Corner — readings throughout the day in main location. Students may write, or bring, their own; we will also have our favorite poems to share.
  • Labyrinth Walk — Go to the Inspiration Station from 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 a.m. Experience a quick mind-heart shift through powerful videos.
It will be in the Center for Faith and Spirituality (Student Center Building SC112, behind the Montclairion Office).
The Inspiration Station becomes the first step to full presence so you can create the life you love. 
It will be run by the Life Coaches at Thought In Motion and hosted by Equity and Diversity staff.

  •  MSU Unplugged Social Media Experience.
  •  Quote Bucket — Contribute favorite quotes, poems, messages, thoughts. These will be posted to social media and hung in the corner as well.
