Tunisia and Libya, two neighboring Arab countries in North Africa both experienced revolution and regime changes three years ago. Yet,the two countries look very different today. Renowned scholar, Dr. Christopher Lamont, Professor at the University of Groningen (Netherlands), will deliver a lecture on the challenges to account for human rights violations committed under authoritarian regimes and during political transitions. He will also discuss the issue of international interventions during democratization processes, the difficulties of building viable institutions in post-authoritarian countries and the question of post-conflict justice and human rights in the Tunisian and Libyan context. This lecture is an excellent catalyst for thought-provoking debates in light of the broiling international turmoil triggered by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
