Figure a Sea
“Sixty minutes of purity, beauty, and body, done with the total conviction that everything complicated can be said without any words.” -- SR Kulturnytt (Sweden)
“Thoughtful, flowing … a very beautiful performance.” – Dagens Nyheter (Sweden)
American icons Deborah Hay and Laurie Anderson collaborate on a new work performed by the intrepid and impressive Cullberg Ballet. In Figure a Sea, dancer and stage form a sea of endless possibilities, where nothing happens by chance. Hay, a founding member of the groundbreaking Judson Dance Theater, has created her first large-scale work in many years, set to a sound score by Laurie Anderson and performed by the 21 dancers of the Cullberg Ballet. Gliding across the stage, they dissolve, join together, and dissolve again, like waves lapping against the shore.
