Jeff Strickland is Associate Professor of History at Montclair State University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the United States during the Nineteenth Century. His first book is _Unequal Freedoms: Ethnicity, Race, and White Supremacy in Civil War–Era Charleston_ http://upf.com/book.asp?id=STRIC001. He is currently writing a book on the Great Slave Prison Escape that occurred in Charleston, South Carolina in 1849.
