Profile
Hugh Curnutt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies. He holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh. He teaches a range of media studies courses, with particular emphasis on critical and cultural theory, television, and video games. His scholarship examines transformations in the contemporary media landscape, especially the role of reality television in reshaping media institutions, performative regimes, and celebrity culture. Curnutt’s work has been published in leading journals and edited collections, including Media, Culture & Society; Television & New Media; Communication Quarterly; Film and Television Stardom; and Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society. In addition to his academic work, he serves as Vice President for Negotiations for the American Federation of Teachers, Local 1904.
