Mary C. English, Professor and Department Chair, received her PhD at Boston University (1999) and her EMBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology (2026). Her research interests include Greek drama and the reinterpretation of these plays by contemporary American playwrights. She co-edited with Dustin W. Dixon of Grinnell College The Spirit of Aristophanes (Edinburgh University Press, 2024). Dr. English has also published extensively on Latin pedagogy. She is the co-author with Georgia L. Irby of A New Latin Primer (Oxford University Press, 2015); and A Little Latin Reader (Oxford University Press, 2011; 2nd edition 2017). At Montclair, she teaches a variety of courses including Greek and Latin language classes at all levels, as well as courses in ancient literature, history, and culture.
