Profile
Aruni Gooneratne is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Writing Studies. She is a proud alumna of Montclair State University, where she earned a B.A. in Linguistics and an M.A. in Teaching, along with dual teaching certifications in English as a Second Language (ESL) and as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD).
She began her career as an educator in a K–8 public school setting. After gaining valuable classroom experience, she went on to complete a master’s degree in the Literacy Specialist program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Following her graduation, she returned to her alma mater to reconnect with and give back to the community that helped shape her academic and professional journey.
Today, as an adjunct instructor, she focuses on guiding students through the writing process with an emphasis on rhetoric, critical thinking, and composition across genres. Her teaching methodology centers on providing feedback at each stage of the writing process and supporting students in developing effective research practices.
