Carol Linnea Johnson is a Broadway actor, singer, and educator with more than three decades of professional experience across Broadway, national tours, New York theatre, classical repertory, regional theatre, film, and television. She currently serves as Director of Recruitment for Musical Theatre and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Musical Theatre BFA program at Montclair State University, where she teaches Musical Theatre Repertoire & Audition Technique and Business of Acting. Her teaching integrates professional standards and processes into rigorous, student-centered training that prepares emerging artists for the realities of the industry.
On Broadway, Ms. Johnson appeared in "Mamma Mia!" at the Winter Garden Theatre, understudying Donna and Tanya before assuming the role of Donna on Broadway and later starring as Donna in the Las Vegas company at Mandalay Bay. She also appeared on Broadway and on the First National Tour of "The Full Monty", directed by Jack O'Brien.
Her New York theatre credits include Lincoln Center Theater (Old Money), Prospect Theatre Company (I Married Wyatt Earp), and Titan Theatre Company (Othello).
Regionally, she has performed leading roles at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Alley Theatre, The Old Globe, Pioneer Theatre Company, Virginia Stage Company, and others. Classical highlights include Amanda in "Private Lives", Lady Catherine de Bourgh in "Pride and Prejudice", Rosalind in "As You Like It", Olivia in "Twelfth Night", and Helena in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". Her range extends from musical theatre to heightened classical text and contemporary comedy.
On screen, she has appeared in the feature film "Break Up at a Wedding" and on television in "Law & Order" and "All My Children". Earlier in her career, she was the lead singer of The Hot Club of Las Vegas, with recordings available on Spotify.
In addition to her performance career, Ms. Johnson has taught at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and throughout the CUNY system, including Borough of Manhattan Community College and LaGuardia Community College. She holds an MFA from the University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program and a BA with Departmental Distinction from St. Olaf College. Her continued engagement with the profession informs her commitment to mentoring students as both developing artists and emerging professionals, emphasizing clarity, curiosity, adaptability, and sustainability in the field.
