SANDRA EULA LEE is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited internationally. She is Assistant Professor of Art at Montclair State University and Head of Visual Art. Through her artwork, Lee explores migration and urban/rural development by investigating materials and making in her sculptures, installations, and drawings. Moving across the land, images and sensations develop into a reflection on landscape, considering cultural memory, development narratives, and future ecology.

Lee's work has been featured in exhibitions including a 10-year survey at The Hilliard Museum in Lafayette, LA; Art Space Pool in Seoul, South Korea; the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College; Inside-Out Museum in Beijing; DadaPost in Berlin; Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University; Smack Mellon in Brooklyn; Goucher College in Baltimore; and recently at the Delaware Contemporary and Ethan Cohen KuBe in NY.

Her artwork has been discussed in The New York Times, Time Out New York, ArtNet Magazine, Boston Globe, Harper’s Bazaar Seoul, and World Journal. Her work has been supported by the Asian Cultural Council, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Elizabeth Foundation, and recently New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Research residencies include Seoul Museum of Art, the American Academy in Rome, National Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea, Chinese-European Art Center in Xiamen, Residency Unlimited in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Vermont Studio Center.

THROUGH HER INTERDISCIPLINARY TEACHING, Lee helps students connect their concerns with the artwork they make, revealing the potential that creative response offers in the face of urgent conditions. At the core lies a critical look at our built environment and ‘making’ as a way of engaging and reimagining the world around us. She is a Mellon Foundation fellow for her approaches to diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has presented at the College Art Association and FATE: UNC Charlotte College of Art and Architecture. Prior to joining Montclair, she was Assistant Professor of Expanded Sculpture at Franklin & Marshall College in PA and Kenyon College in OH, and Director of the M.A. Preparation program in Beijing with the University of the Arts London.
