Maryrose McInerney, PhD, CCC-A, is Director of the Doctor of Audiology Program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within the College of Community Health at Montclair State University, where she serves as an Associate Teaching Professor. With more than 40 years of clinical practice and 15 years in higher education, her teaching, scholarship, and professional service focus on pediatric audiology, early hearing detection and intervention, amplification, family-centered care, and intervention outcomes across the lifespan. Her work includes newborn hearing screening and follow-up systems, prevention and early intervention related to hearing loss, and public health approaches that address social determinants of health to improve outcomes for children and families. She initiated NJhEARS in 2024 as a community outreach initiative to provide hearing screenings for underserved children and improve access to early identification of hearing concerns. She also has extensive experience in interprofessional collaboration and program development, including establishing the audiology program as part of an interdisciplinary team at Hackensack Medical Center more than 30 years ago.
Dr. McInerney’s contributions to clinical education, research, and professional leadership have been recognized through numerous honors, including Audiologist of the Year in New Jersey by the Sound Start Foundation (2023), Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (2025), and election to the National Academy of Practice in Audiology. Her scholarship and service reflect a longstanding commitment to advancing pediatric hearing healthcare, improving access to care, and preparing the next generation of audiologists.
