Karl Nussbaum is a Brooklyn based filmmaker / video installation artist, whose work has been internationally exhibited in galleries, museums, universities and in over 70 international film festivals, including the Sundance and Rotterdam International Film festivals, the London Film Festival, Oberhausen, Black Maria; at Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian / Hirshorn Museum, Harvard Film Archives, Lincoln Center, The Carpenter Center, Anthology Archives, Director’s Guild of America, American Cinematique, La Mama, PS 122, Richmond Museum of Fine Art, Portland Art Museum, ExitArt (NYC), MMX Gallery/ Berlin, Witteveen Art Centre and Gallery (Amsterdam), Sideshow Gallery (Brooklyn), Laconia Gallery (Boston), Kunst Haus Wiesbaden (Germany) and the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair.

Television screenings include the Sundance Channel, Canal Plus and NHK in Tokyo. He was a featured artist at the Global Freud Symposium at Clark University and at the 12th Annual Holocaust series Symposium at St. Mary’s College. He has been awarded multiple fellowships at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts (VCCA), the MacDowell Colony, several grants and residencies in Hamburg, Germany, a fellowship at the St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Malta, and international artist residencies at Foundacion Ebert/ Chateau de La Lonne in France, M4Gastalier in Amsterdam, and an artist residency at Fundación Valparaíso, in Spain.

Nussbaum is also a founding member of the NYC film collective, Film Crash and has made films for several of Ridge Theater’s productions, including The Manson Family Opera at Lincoln Center. He has also worked for MTV, MTV2, VH-1, Fox TV, and the Sundance channel. When MTV2 was launched in 1996, the first images broadcast were Nussbaum’s short spot, ‘The Grass Suit”.
