Profile

Dr. Becky Ofrane is an Assistant Professor of Public Health in the College for Community Health. Her policy and qualitative research focuses on systemic drivers of reproductive and maternal health disparities, experiences and outcomes; workforce development for doulas and community-based perinatal providers; and public health pedagogy. She is the program director for the Montclair State University Maternal and Child Health Workforce Catalyst Program. Dr. Ofrane teaches undergraduate and graduate public health courses, including Health Policy and Behavioral and Social Science in Health.

Dr. Ofrane was the 2024 recipient of the Effective Practice Award from the American Public Health Association Maternal and Child Health Section, and a 2025 honoree of the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research's Matilda White Riley Early Stage Investigator Paper Competition.

Dr. Ofrane has worked in public health practice for nearly 20 years, and was previously the Executive Director of Maternal and Child Health Services at the NJ Department of Health, Co-Director of the City Health Dashboard program at NYU Langone School of Medicine Department of Population Health, and the Children's Environmental Health Coordinator for U.S. EPA Region II, among other roles.

Having worked in healthcare, federal government, non-profits, and academic medicine, she is passionate about the intersection of research, health service delivery and policymaking. Becky is also a full-spectrum doula, and brings that personal lens to her efforts to improve women's health.
