Profile

Alfredo Toro Carnevali coordinates the Graduate Program, the Minor in Global Security and Diplomacy, and the Model United Nations Summer Academy at the Political Science and Law Department at Montclair State University. Before arriving at Montclair, Professor Toro Carnevali worked for many years as a diplomat. He was chairperson of the UN Security Council’s sub-committee on the implementation of Resolution 1540 on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and vice-president of the General Assembly’s First Committee on Disarmament and International Security. He has also negotiated and facilitated numerous UN resolutions and outcome documents, including the Final Report of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations. In addition, he has published numerous articles in international academic journals on US-Latin American relations, international governance, and the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect, and is a regular contributor to different newspapers and blogs in the Spanish language. He earned his B.A. from Georgetown University where he majored in Government and has a MSc in Public Policy and Administration from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
He regularly teaches POLS 100 Introduction to Politics, POLS 104 International Security and Diplomacy, POLS 200 International Relations, POLS 203 International Organizations, POLS 207 American Foreign Policy, POLS 341 Government and Politics of Latin America, POLS 416 Special Topics: Nuclear Security and Diplomacy and POLS 560 Politics of Terrorism.
