Ever wonder why the justice system works the way it does? Why are some communities policed more heavily than others? What even counts as a “crime” – and who decides?
If these questions spark your curiosity, you might be a criminologist in the making.
What is Criminology & Social Justice?
Criminology is the study of crime, justice, and systems of power. At Bloomfield College, you’ll examine how society defines crime, how justice is carried out (or denied), and how to work toward a world where equity and human dignity come first.
You’ll study everything from street-level crime to abuses of power by major institutions, gaining the tools to unpack complex systems and advocate for meaningful change.
Why Study Criminology & Social Justice at Bloomfield?
This major goes beyond the headlines to explore the social forces that shape law, policy, and justice — from race and gender to economic inequality and environmental harm. You’ll build a strong foundation in theory while applying your learning through real-world internships and community partnerships.
Our students have interned with organizations focused on mental health, reentry, domestic violence advocacy, and neighborhood development. They leave Bloomfield ready to create safer, more just communities — whether through social services, law enforcement, policy work, or activism.
You’ll graduate understanding:
- How justice systems function — and where they fall short
- The root causes of crime in individuals and institutions
- Strategies for protecting communities and defending human rights
If you’re ready to challenge the status quo and fight for equity, this is the program for you.
