Archaeology

With the Archaeology minor, you will study the remains of past cultures from the ground up – literally! The minor will introduce you to the science, methods and ethical foundations that form the basis for this fascinating discipline. Expand your knowledge by studying past cultures through investigation of their material remains.

The interdisciplinary coursework includes the study of archaeological method and theory and leads to a sophisticated understanding of material remains in the larger context of human society, and how material evidence can compare with and supplement the evidence of historical written texts.

You can get your hands dirty too! Through programs run directly by the University’s Center for Heritage and Archaeological Studies in northern New Jersey, as well as through faculty-conducted projects around the globe, you will have excellent opportunities to participate in fieldwork.

The Archaeology minor makes a good complement to any liberal arts or professional studies major. And with interest in archaeology growing, historic preservation legislation has resulted in important employment opportunities in the private (applied archaeology) and public (government agencies, state museums) sectors.
