Ready to finish what you started? The Bachelor of Arts in Applied Studies (BAS) at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University is a flexible degree completion program designed for working adults who have some college credit but haven’t yet earned a degree.

Public Service

Want a career that makes a real difference in your community? The Public Service concentration equips you to understand — and improve — the systems that shape people’s lives. You’ll study topics like public policy, criminology, sociology, and social justice, while building real-world skills in research, communication, and critical thinking. You’ll also explore how individual behavior is shaped by larger systems through courses in social psychology.

Graduates are prepared for careers in government, human services, criminal justice, community development, and more.

Course Spotlight: Pathways To Adult Learning (IDS 155)

Pathways to Adult Learning helps you get back into the rhythm of college. Designed specifically for adult learners, this course strengthens core academic skills while helping you balance school, work, and life with confidence.

Program Requirements and Admissions Info

To apply to the Bachelor of Arts in Applied Studies program at Bloomfield College, you must:

  • Have completed at least 30 college credits
  • Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent more than five years ago
  • For Fall 2026 and Fall 2027 cohorts: Have completed an associate degree prior to enrollment

This 120-credit program includes:

  • 6 credits in professional development and career planning
  • 24 credits in a chosen concentration (currently: Public Service)
  • 30–33 credits of SEEDS General Education requirements (waived if you’ve already earned an associate degree)
  • Electives of your choice

You can transfer up to 90 credits, including eligible prior learning credits. To graduate, you must complete at least 30 credits at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University.
