If you’ve ever wondered how the universe works, considered the smallest particles or the furthest galaxies, then the Physics program at Montclair is the place for you. You’ll explore the fundamental laws of nature, while gaining critical thinking, problem solving, and mathematical modeling skills that prepare you for graduate study or careers in engineering, research, education and more.

Our curriculum covers topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum physics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and more. Through coursework and research, you’ll build scientific reasoning and communication skills that are highly valued across industries. Whether you're aiming for a future career in physics, astronomy, engineering, or health professions, this STEM-designated degree offers strong preparation, and the flexibility to pursue one of several specialized tracks.

Concentrations

Provides broad training in physics, ideal for students planning to attend graduate school or work in research, engineering, or technical industries. This concentration includes core physics courses and electives that cover both foundational and advanced topics in physical science.

This combined program allows you to complete both your BS in Physics and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in just five years. You’ll graduate with teaching certification in either physics or physical science (P–12) and advanced preparation in pedagogy, classroom practice, and science education. This program is ideal if you’re seeking a rewarding career teaching physics or physical science at the secondary level.
