Are you interested in having a meaningful career helping others? Would you like to work with children, youth and families in your community? Build the foundation that will help you make a positive difference in people’s lives through the minor in Social Work!

In this program, you will gain a comprehensive overview of social work, with a focus on policy and practice issues relevant to children and families. Learn about the social work profession, its values and ethics, fields of practice, and different models of intervention.

The 18-credit minor is open to students of any major and is ideal for those who want to learn more about the field of social work, are considering a career in human services, or are interested in a graduate social work program in the future. The courses in the minor are:

  • Introduction to Social Work
  • Cultural Competencies in Child Welfare
  • Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Social Welfare Policy and Services
  • Helping and Engagement Skills
  • Seminar in Social Work

Through the minor in Social Work, you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate an array of possible career paths, including a case manager, counselor, community organizer and advocate, to name just a few. See the curriculum.
