" The Real Life Mulan and Other Women Warriors" with Sifu Sal Canzonieri
The well known Disney movie Mulan portrays the real life Chinese heroine Mu Lan who disguised herself as a man so she might serve in the imperial army in her father's place. The character is based on an ancient Chinese poem which dates to the fifth century C.E. There have been many Chinese women warriors of the Han, Song, Tang and Qing dynasties who would pretend to be males in order to train in certain martial arts and fight along side men in battle. Join us for  this informative talk on Chinese women warriors and their heroic adventures by a scholar of Chinese martial arts.

Sifu Sal Canzonieri is a master of  Chinese martial arts and healing and has been a certified instructor since 1998 by the International Congress of Oriental Medicine and Martial Arts to represent the state of New Jersey in Chinese Qigong and Internal Martial Arts.

He has been conducting research in the history of traditional Chinese martial arts styles for over 20 years and is most known for his history based articles in various martial arts magazines, such as “Kung Fu Qi Gung” magazine, "Han Wei" magazine, and other publications all over the world (translated in Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Chinese languages).
