SGA Scholarship Deadline

Undergraduate students: submit your applications by Friday, April 1.

The Student Government Association (SGA) invites Montclair State University undergraduate students to submit their applications for one or more of their available scholarships.

Deadline and Awards

  • The deadline for application submission is:  Friday, April 1, 2016.  Applications must be placed submitted via the SGA HawkSync web page. (Go to application.)
  • Recipients will be notified by Friday, April 17, 2016.
  • Awards will be presented on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Inaugural Ball.

About the Applying

  • You can only win one award, but you can submit applications for as many scholarships, for which you quality.
  • You must be returning to Montclair State University undergraduate student in fall 2016.
  • The number of scholarships to be awarded is determined by the number of applicants and their qualifications.

About the Scholarships

The following is a list of available scholarships:

(Please Note: all recipients awards will be credited to their Montclair State University Student Account.)

SGA Outstanding Student Award
3.5 GPA, At least sophomore status.
This award is intended for full-time students who have maintained a high standard of excellence in their academic endeavors while committing time to either SGA chartered organizations or the campus community. Awards will be based on the quality of service and GPA.

Dr. Edward Martin Scholarship
2.75 GPA, Full time students only, At least sophomore status.
This award is in recognition of Dr. Edward Martin, former Dean of Students at Montclair State University. The SGA Fund, Inc. will award two scholarships to full-time students who have exhibited excellence in leadership and service to the campus community.

Eby Ohamadike Scholarship Award

No GPA requirement, All full-time students.
This award is dedicated to the memory of Eby Ohamadike and intended for a full-time student who has dedicated time and effort in educating the campus community on cultural diversity and pride in their particular culture background. In addition, the recipient must have exhibited a desire to bring different sects of campus together in celebration of collective heritage.

Outstanding Freshman Scholarship Award

3.0 GPA, Full time freshman only.
This award is intended for freshman full-time only showing campus involvement. A two page written essay must describe how your first year at Montclair State University has helped you to grow as an individual.

Transfer Student Scholarship Award

2.75 GPA, At least sophomore status.
This award is intended for full-time students of at least sophomore status who have transferred into Montclair State University.  Awards will be based on GPA and campus involvement.

Non-Traditional and Veteran Student Scholarship
3.0 GPA, At least sophomore status.
This scholarship in intended for full or part time students over the age of 25 who attend either weekend or evening classes and exhibit academic prowess and a desire for learning to enhance their career or personal goals. Personal statement is required.

Amanda Quesada Memorial Scholarship
2.75 GPA, At least sophomore status.
This scholarship is in intended for full or part time undergraduate students. Essay on how you have demonstrated school pride and participated in philanthropic endeavors and volunteer work, at least one but no more than five photographs demonstrating such community services is required.
