Earlier this year, the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University teamed up with NJ Spotlight to raise more than $31,000 to support reporting on immigration issues in New Jersey.

NJ Spotlight, an independent news organization focused on politics and public policy issues, will use its share of the money raised to produce a series of in-depth reports on the issues and policies that affect immigrant communities in New Jersey: their struggles, achievements, and the impact that immigrants and their families have in critical areas like education, healthcare, jobs, housing and more.

Meanwhile, the Center for Cooperative Media will distribute up to $8,500 in grant funding to pay for reporting on immigration issues in New Jersey, with an eye specifically toward supporting ethnic and community media organizations. We're looking for personal stories about what it's like to be an immigrant in New Jersey, as well as reporting on immigration issues affecting local ethnic communities.

We want to hear about everyday obstacles, struggles and achievements, especially in the areas of education, healthcare, jobs and housing. We want to hear what life is like today, in a time of increasingly hostile political rhetoric. Preference will be given to multimedia stories that include video as well as written words.

We intend to fund 8-10 stories and/or projects. The grants will range from $500-$1,000 each. Fellows will be selected by a team of representatives from NJ Spotlight, New America Media, and the Center for Cooperative Media.

Applications for funding are due at 11:59 pm on Monday, June 20, 2016. Please fill out the application below.
