More true-crime drama from Lumet and Pacino, this 1975 film explores the bizarre dynamics – and media frenzy – that accompanied a botched bank robbery. It won Pacino yet another Oscar nod for his role as Sonny Wortzik – who only wanted the money to pay for his lover’s gender-reassignment surgery – and features superb work from John Cazale and Chris Sarandon, as well as an early sensitivity to LGBT issues.
