A fierce Paddy Chayefsky script anchors this 1976 satire of television, in which a failing network builds its new business model on extremism and demagoguery. Remarkably prescient about the shape of things to come -- “Not even Orwell has been as right,” Aaron Sorkin later said – it’s also bleakly funny, and like most Lumet films, crammed with great actors, including Peter Finch, William Holden and Faye Dunaway.
