Lumet, an inveterate New Yorker, takes a day trip to Boston in this powerful 1982 drama about a burnt-out lawyer trying to win a malpractice case, and finding himself facing the full might of the Catholic Church and its colluding lawyers. David Mamet wrote the script, full of his typically crackling dialogue, and it’s delivered with verve by Paul Newman, James Mason, Milo O’Shea and Charlotte Rampling.
