John Gall is a designer, artist, author, editor and teacher. He is currently the creative director for Abrams Books. His design and illustration work for Vintage Books, Alfred A Knopf, The Criterion Collection and The New York Times have been recognized by the AIGA, Art Directors Club, Print, Graphis, and American Illustration. Known primarily for his book cover designs for such authors as Haruki Murakami and Vladimir Nabokov, he is also an internationally exhibited artist and is featured in the books By Its Cover: Modern American Book Cover Design, Graphic: Inside the Sketchbooks of the World's Great Graphic Designers, and The Age of Collage: Contemporary Collage in Modern Art.
He has written about graphic design covering an array of topics from the history of Grove Press to contemporary skateboard graphics and is the author of Sayonara Home Run! The Art of the Japanese Baseball Card. Recently he has been the editor for two bestselling design books: Pretty Much Everything by Aaron Draplin and Sunday Sketching by Christoph Niemann. He has served on the board of AIGA/NY and as an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts. A book of his work: John Gall Collages 2008-2018 was published in Fall 2018. www.johngalldesign.com
