Ofelia Garcia is Professor Emerita of the Ph.D. Programs in Urban Education and Latin American, Iberian and Latino Cultures at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York. She has published widely on issues dealing with language and education, and is a member of the National Academy of Education.

Dr. Garcia's work is internationally celebrated for its impact in the fields of sociolinguistics and bilingual education. Among her best-known books are Bilingual Education in the 21st Century: A Global Perspective and the 2015 British Association of Applied Linguistics Book Award recipient: Translanguaging; Language, Bilingualism and Education
