Daniel, Debra, Leslie (and You?) Listening to those who suffer with a mental disorder requires listening, first and foremost, to people as people and not as patients. Whether clinician, family member, or friend, listening to an individual as an individual is essential to their sense of self. For this reason, we allowed the topics of conversation to flow where they may. Interviews sometimes provide context but more often fold into the choral nature of the intercut conversations. Common experiences emerge through a multiplicity of voices.
