Urban Teacher Residency Recruitment
The Urban Teacher Residency at Montclair State University is an apprenticeship- and cohort-based teacher preparation program for individuals with a deep commitment to antiracist and social justice education. The program provides extensive classroom experiences with a mentor teacher, critical professional development and 3 years of induction support after graduation. Residents receive a $44,000 living stipend to help cover the cost of graduate tuition at Montclair State University while enrolled in the 18-month program. Residents who successfully complete the program will earn New Jersey Teacher of Students of Disabilities certification AND P-3, K-6, OR P-12 subject area teacher certification AND their Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Graduates are required to make a three-year commitment to teach in Newark Public Schools.
