Cali Sinfonia on Stage with Anthony McGill

Cali Sinfonia presents Debussy's Première Rhapsodie, for clarinet and orchestra with guest soloist Anthony McGill, and Mahler's Symphony 4 with soprano Evita Teterovska, both in chamber orchestra arrangements.

Clarinetist Anthony McGill is one of classical music’s most recognizable and brilliantly multifaceted figures. He serves as the principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, that orchestra’s first African-American principal player. Hailed for his “trademark brilliance, penetrating sound and rich character” (The New York Times), as well as for his “exquisite combination of technical refinement and expressive radiance” (The Baltimore Sun), McGill also serves as an ardent advocate for helping music education reach underserved communities. McGill was honored to take part in the inauguration of President Obama, premiering a piece by John Williams alongside violinist Itzhak Perlman, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and pianist Gabriela Montero.

Evita Teterovska, is a Latvian soprano from a small, quaint European town Alūksne, Latvia. Currently, she is participating in an Opera Artist Diploma program on full tuition scholarship, at the John J. Cali School of Music, Montclair State University just outside New York City. Ms. Teterovska earned her Master's degree in Opera Singing from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy. She has worked with many acclaimed opera professionals including Grace Bumbry (opera singer) in Turkey; Jeffrey Goldberg (Assistant Conductor, Metropolitan Opera); Roger Malouf (Assistant Conductor, Metropolitan Opera); Joan Dorneman (Assistant Conductor, Metropolitan Opera); Deb Birnbaum (vocal professor, Lindeman Young Artist Program, Metropolitan Opera); Dan Sanders (Metropolitan Opera Pianist) and other professional artists and professors in New York City. She has participated in masterclasses in Luxembourg (Nei Stemmen competition, scholarship holder), and London Masterclasses (scholarship holder, Manchester, UK). Ms. Teterovska is a scholar of the Olgarhythm Foundation (London, UK). Her European debut was in the role of Adina (L’elisir d’amore, Donizetti) in Teatro Fenarolo di Lanciano (Italy), with conductor Gioachino Scomegna (Italy). She performed for 3 years as a professional chorister at the Latvian National Opera and Ballett.
