Karl Nussbaum is an award winning Brooklyn based filmmaker / video installation artist whose work has been internationally exhibited in galleries, museums, universities and International film festivals. His film Raw Images from the Optic Cross premiered at the Sundance Festival and the Rotterdam International Film Festival and screened at over 100 film festivals worldwide including the London International, Oberhausen, KurzFilm Festival Hamburg, Black Maria, and Hamptons Film Festivals. He has screened at the Smithsonian / Hirshorn Museum, Director's Guild of America; in NYC at Lincoln Center, P.S. 122, Anthology Film Archives, Millennium, La Mama, Exit Art, Socrates Sculpture Park, American Repertory Theater; at the Harvard Film Archives, Carpenter Center, Richmond Museum of Fine Art, Portland Art Museum, MMX Gallery/ Berlin, Witteveen Art Centre/ Amsterdam, Kunst Haus /Wiesbaden, Germany, Kriti Gallery /India, Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair/ Turkey, Festival Internacional de VideoArte / Cuba, Taoxichuan International Artist Studio / Jingdezhen, China and the Sichuan Fine Art Museum / Chongqing, China.His newest film, Phantasmagoria, 1945, premiered at the prestigious 67th Oberhausen Film Festival in 2021 and along with his film, Ghost Dance for America, 1890 - which together are 2/3 of a trilogy about America - screened at over 70 international festivals in 2021. His latest installation, Ghosts in the Cloud Forest premiered at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Museum in Chongqing, China at the end of 2021 and will be presented in Scotland in 2022..He has been awarded multiple artist fellowships/ residencies including at the MacDowell Colony, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Kriti Artist Residency in India, St. James Cavalier Centre in Malta, Foundacion Ebert in France, M4Gastalier in Amsterdam, Fundación Valparaíso in Spain, and the JDZ International Artist Residency in Jingdezhen, China.Nussbaum was a featured artist at the Global Freud Symposium at Clark University and the 12th Annual Holocaust Series Symposium at St. Mary’s College.Nussbaum is a founding member of the 80's East Village NYC film collective, Film Crash.  He is currently a Film Professor at Montclair University, NJ and has an MFA in New Media from Transart Institute/ Berlin.
