An expert on diversity and culture and science education, Dr. Sumi Hagiwara, Assistant Professor in Montclair State University’s Department of Early Childhood, Elementary Education, and Literacy Education, examines the ways “home culture” influences immigrant parents’ involvement in schools. Dr. Hagiwara is a co-creator of epiSTEMic, a summer program for children in grades K-6 that develops their knowledge and understanding of the STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics –disciplines.
