Profile

Mr. Flynn is an award winning director, writer, and educator who has created two educational programs and several new musicals. Formerly the Director of Musical Theatre at Stella Adler Conservatory, he created curricula integrating training for the singing actor with the Adler acting philosophy. Mr. Flynn is the former Artistic Director of the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY, as well as the former Artistic Director of the Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival in Steamboat Springs, CO. Partnerships with industry professionals include Stephen Schwartz, Jeanine Tesori, and Adam Bock with young artists from around the country.

Most recently, Mr. Flynn created and directed The Eyes of the World, a WWII multi-media symphonic performance for Carnegie Hall. Other New York directing credits include the off-Broadway premieres of Smart Blonde by Willy Holtzman, and Curvy Widow by Bobby Goldman & Drew Brody at the Westside Theatre.

Upcoming projects include the new musical Calling Us Home by Alice Gillham premiering in Cape Town, South Africa at the Artscape Performing Arts Center.

Other credits include Matilda for the Olney Theatre; and Into the Woods, 1776, and Ragtime (Helen Hayes nominated) for Ford’s Theatre where he is currently an Associate Artist; Chess with Josh Groban & Julia Murney; Funny Girl with Whoopi Goldberg, Jane Krakowski, & Sutton Foster; Our Town with B.D. Wong, and S. Epatha Merkerson; On the 20th Century with Douglas Sills & Marin Mazzie; Skippyjon Jones, and Junie B. Jones (two Lucille Lortel Award nominations); & Rhapsody in Seth starring Seth Rudetsky; Andrea Martin’s one woman show, Andrea Martin: Final Days Everything Must Go; Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop; Gypsy for the St. Louis MUNY; and Man of La Mancha for the Maltz-Jupiter Theatre (Carbonell Award, Best Direction).

Mr. Flynn is an Artistic Ambassador for both the Christchurch International Musical Theatre Summer School in New Zealand, and for Theatreworks USA, the national children's touring organization.
