My research includes food safety and security, sensory and nutritional food quality, and development of food formulations and processing and packaging technology.


Food Safety and FDA/USDA regulatory compliance. Certified Food Scientist from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).
1997-2015-Chairperson of US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Research Science Advisor Program, Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Office of Regulatory Affairs. Duties included chairing 35 university professors nationwide who are FDA Research Science Advisors. Under my direction, this program established the research priorities and approvals for the US FDA research program. I have planned and organized this program so that it reflects a nationwide effort to effectively address food safety and security issues by developing and implementing research to develop new and more accurate food and water analytical methods.

My research has focused on food safety and biosecurity and assisting food companies meet the new Food Safety Modrenization Act regulatory requirements.
