Profile

Dr. Zhou joined the Computer Science Department at Montclair State University in Fall 2018. He received his Ph.D. from the Computer Science Department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2014. He also has a M.S. degree in Mathematics and a B.S. degree in Physics, both from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Most of his research is about extending the perception capability to computers or devices. Perception is a set of natural capabilities for humans including recognition of voice, image, vision, continuous activities, etc. These are often natural to humans but difficult for computing systems.

Specialization

Some topics he has contributed include recognition of human faces, sports recognition, and open-environment continuous activities recognition, fast subspace and manifold embedding, concurrent features selection, structure from motion, mechanisms about brain’s response to excitements, theoretical explorations, machine perception based trading and investment, data driven asset management in global markets, etc. Some of his publications appeared in premium venues such as TPAMI, TNNLS, CVPR, NIPS, etc.
