Profile

I am an interdisciplinary teacher and scholar. My teaching and research interests include visual culture, material culture, disability studies, body theory, medical history, gender studies, and science and technology studies.

I have a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of California, Davis and a BA in interdisciplinary studies from Macalester College. My research broadly analyzes bodies as sites of knowledge production. I am currently working on a book project that looks at shifts in clinical power dynamics and the racialized and gendered medical discourses surrounding “grassroots diseases.” I am also the co-editor, with Achy Obejas, of the short fiction anthology, Immigrant Voices: 21st Century Stories.
