Profile

The Montclair State choral program is a dynamic community with a focus on artistic excellence, humanistic values (Integrity - Compassion - Respect), and service through music.

Choral participation emphasizes quality artistic and educational experiences through the study of masterworks, music by master composers (historical and living), emerging composers, as well as stylistically and culturally diverse choral repertoire.

Dr. Buchanan's choral pedagogy is somatically based, employing a a wide range of techniques and experiences designed to cultivate vocal and ensemble competence enabling choristers to function as independent, flexible, and responsive artists.

Interdisciplinary collaborations are a hallmark of the the Montclair State choral programming along with culturally responsive and socially relevant themes.

Specialization

Director of Choral Activities. Conductor of Montclair State's curricular choirs: i) Chorale (symphonic choir), ii) University Singers (flagship choir), iii) Vocal Accord (chamber choir); and extracurricular project choir Prima Voce (SSAA).

Studio/private choral conducting instruction (UG and GR students).

Licensed Body Mapping Educator (LMBE) and somatic education specialist with applications for enhancing musicians' technical and musical facility (http://bodymap.org).

Passionate musicians' health advocate and oversees Cali School Musician's Health Agenda.
