Profile

Dr. Christine Lemesianou is Associate Dean in the College of the Arts and serves as Special Advisor to the Provost for Accreditation. She is responsible for all personnel and budget matters, community outreach and partnerships, and communications. She oversees the Office of Education and Community Outreach in the College of the Arts and her portfolio also includes curriculum development, international programs, pre-college programs, summer bridge programs and student success initiatives. She has received multiple grants from private funders to support pre-college programs for underserved students as well as the New Jersey ReelAbilities Film Festival which celebrates disability through films and promotes disability awareness, inclusion, and justice.

Lemesianou previously served as Associate Director of the School of Communication and Media (SCM) and Associate Professor in Communication and Media Studies. The School encompasses the areas of communication and media studies, television and filmmaking, journalism and digital media, sports communication, animation and VFX, and social media and public relations. She led a Task Force that worked on the creation of the School’s interdisciplinary academic programs and provided leadership in the administrative launch of the School, overseeing the creation its state-of-the-art new facilities, and a wide range of co-curricular and project-based initiatives that have promoted the growth and national reputation of the School. launch of the School and its. Before that, Lemesianou held positions at Montclair State as department chair, faculty member, and program coordinator, and leadership roles as undergraduate curriculum committee leader, executive leadership team member for Middle States Accreditation, and member of the Committee on University Effectiveness and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Lemesianou’s teaching and scholarship focus on how various actors participate in and define the public sphere in today's digital, globalized world. She is interested in the role that emerging media play in the creation of more participatory and inclusive spaces for dialogue. She has presented her research in regional, national, and international conferences and published in academic journals. Lemesianou has expertise in pedagogy, instructional technologies, assessment and accreditation, and community-based teaching and learning. She received the University Distinguished Teacher Award in 2012.

Dr. Lemesianou has deep and broad experiences with accreditation which were cultivated in her role on the Executive Leadership Team for Middle States Accreditation for the past ten years and through her leadership in the recent merger of Bloomfield College with Montclair State University. Her expertise regularly extends beyond the university and she has done consulting work and conducted workshops on curriculum development, external program reviews, assessment of learning, and preparation of accreditation reports and visits for several higher education institutions.
