Jessica C. Murphy is the inaugural Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Success, and Academic Innovation and Associate Professor of English at Montclair State University. Murphy's portfolio provides central leadership for student success collaboration and coordination, including but not limited to academic support, career support, special programs, and advising coordination; faculty teaching support; student data agency support; and other duties as assigned. A first-generation college graduate from the Bronx, Jessica earned her BA from Hunter College and MA/PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to Montclair, she spent fifteen years at a prior institution, serving seven as Dean of Undergraduate Education. Dr. Murphy's dedication to student success is rooted in her belief in education's transformative power.
Specialization
Academic: Early modern English literature and culture; digital humanities for access (see the English Broadside Ballad Archive as an example of such a project: https://ebba.english.ucsb.edu/) ; and collaborative leadership.
Administrative: Student success, change management, leadership, connection, and collaboration.
