Minor

Learn to read the works of Homer, Plato, Sophocles and Euripides in their own language – Greek! Study the poets, orators, philosophers and historians of ancient Greece whose ideas and words are celebrated even today.

Open to undergraduate students of any major, the Greek minor allows you to achieve advanced reading proficiency in Ancient Greek and have the opportunity to explore Greek epic poetry, oratory, tragedy, historiography and philosophy, as well as to read the Greek New Testament.

In addition to learning the fundamentals of Greek grammar, you can choose from a wide array of courses and focus on areas that interest you most. If you choose Greek Epic Poetry, you can read and study the Iliad and Odyssey of Homer. Or you can study the Greek philosophical tradition and read Plato’s Apology concerning the trial and death of Socrates. If theater is your interest, learn about the structure and contemporary relevance of Greek Tragedy.

The Greek minor complements any major and will deepen your knowledge base, expand your language capabilities and broaden your cultural competencies. See the curriculum.
